DIY Budget Friendly Craft Mat – Perfect For Watercolour Techniques

Today is a quick little ‘how to’ for a DIY craft mat. When I started my art journal a couple of weeks ago I quickly realised how messy it could get and that I would need something to protect my desk top. Having a look online I found a few craft mats for sale but at this point I didn’t really want to spend the dollars on one and I also wanted it quickly. My desk top is actually just a piece of pine covered in patterned contact and I found that it was quite easy to clean my mess off of with just a cloth and some spray and wipe. So a contacted piece of card/paper seemed the obvious plan of attack.

So I headed off down to the shops and picked up a 5 metre roll of clear contact for only $3 and a large sheet of poster paper for a $1 and got contacting. It was a quick, easy and cheap solution to my problem and works a treat. So I made a couple more with some smaller sheets from an old visual diary I had lying around for smaller projects. It’s perfect for using with distress or oxide inks, gelatos, ink sprays etc. and is easy to clean up. All in all, it does the job. Some day I will get a ‘proper’ one, but for now this will do me nicely.

Thanks so much for reading and watching everyone! I really do appreciate it. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ
