Well, week three of my art journal challenge did not go as planned. What I did have planned was a bright, joyful page with the theme of Yoga, because I am going to start the ‘Yoga With Adriene’ Dedicate 30 Day Yoga Journey this week and I thought that it would be good motivation to start me off. That was last Saturday though, the day before I left to go camping. I then spent five glorious days completely disconnected from the outside world, spending my days cooling off (it was 40°C most days) in the cool waters of the Howqua River, reading, sleeping under the stars, communing with nature. Then I came home. To the suburbs. It was sensory overload and I did not cope with it well. I tried to come up with a bright, joyful idea for my journal, but I could not get there. So at the eleventh hour, I let it go and then this came out.
“To see the light we must first acknowledge that we are in the dark”
– Dominic Rouse
I started by printing off a silhouette picture I found online and the quote I wanted to use. Using the silhouette as a guide, I sketched out the areas I wanted to fill using Distress Inks as watercolours. Using a few words from a stamp set I have, I repeat stamped over both the corners before filling the negative space with black acrylic paint and a damp sponge.
After removing the masks, I finished the edges by adding a little border using a white Sakura Gelly Roll Pen before adding my quote of choice which I also edged using the same pen. Week three complete!
Thanks so much for reading and watching everyone! I really do appreciate it. 🙌🏼
